TMZ reports that Mike Tyson repeatedly punched a man in his face while boarding a plane from San Francisco to Miami.
According to the publication, Tyson, 55 years old, was annoyed by an “overly enthusiastic” fan who sat behind Tyson and continued talking “in his ears” after Tyson asked him to “chill.”
Witnesses claim Mike Tyson was “cool” with Melvin Townsend III who he later punched. He was furious and the entire incident was captured on video, with police intervening.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, Townsend, 36 years old, refused to cooperate investigators regarding the incident. TMZreports from Tyson’s sources that the man was “extremely drunk.”
Tyson is seen apparently losing his cool. The police also confirmed that Tyson was not the only one who suffered from non-life-threatening injuries.
Tyson’s team claimed that the passenger threw water bottles at the former world heavyweight champion.
The video ended up at the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. According to Steven Wagstaffe, San Mateo County District Attorney, the boxing legend will not face charges.
“We have reviewed both the San Francisco Police Department’s and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office’s police reports and have seen the videos taken by law enforcement from other passengers on the plane. Based on the facts surrounding the encounter, we have decided not to file any charges against Mr. Tyson.
He went on to explain:
“These include Mr. Tyson’s conduct leading up to the incident, Mr. Tyson’s interaction with the victim, and both Mr. Tyson’s and the victim’s requests that no charges are filed in this case.”
USA Today confirms that the man in question is from Florida.
